Energy Savings

For some immediate energy savings, try these ideas:

1. For a better performing HVAC unit change your filters monthly. Clean filters also reduce your exposure to indoor allergens.

2. Insulated window shades or blinds cut nighttime heat loss.

3. Install door sweeps to reduce air flow underneath doors.

4. Insulating and tightening your house is the best way to reduce home energy use

5. Caulk around pipes to prevent air leaks.

6. Turn down the thermostat on your water heater. A setting of 120 degrees is adequate for most home needs.

7. When drying clothes, dry similar items together. This not only saves on dryer time, but also is easier on most clothes.

8. Dry two or more loads of clothes in a row, thus taking advantage of the heat still in the dryer from the first load.

9. Compact fluorescent lights last, on average, ten times as long as incandescent lights.

10. Turn off lights when you leave the room, if you have those who cannot remember to do this, consider an occupancy sensor for automatically turning off lights. This saves energy as well as money.
