Christmas Butter Cookies

From the Swaw's

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound real butter, softened
  • 5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons jelly of your choice
  • 1 to 2 cups of powdered sugar in a small bowl for later

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter with white sugar using a spoon.
  2. Next, add vanilla and then flour. Makes very stiff dough.
  3. Pinch off a portion of dough, roll into a ball, and gently flatten (should be about the diameter of a half-dollar coin). Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  4. Make a small dent in each cookie with your thumb. Drop a bit of jelly in each dent.
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees (until they start to brown on the edges). Let cookies cool for a few minutes and then dip each one in powdered sugar. Enjoy!
