General FAQs
Simply put, broadband is access to high-speed internet. Broadband can be delivered over multiple technologies, including fiber, cable, and fixed wireless. The official Federal Communications Commission (FCC) definition of broadband is a minimum of 25 Mbps (megabits per second) download and 3 Mbps upload. Ignite Broadband & Dickson Electric will deliver broadband via a fiber optic network for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services with symmetrical upload and download speeds of 500 Mbps, 1 Gig, and 2.5 Gigs.
Our local fiber network is built for speed, reliability, and real-world use. Unlike cable or satellite services, we deliver true symmetrical speeds, so uploads are just as fast as downloads perfect for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart homes. Fiber isn’t affected by weather or wireless interference like Starlink, and it doesn’t slow down during peak hours like cable networks. Because we own and operate our network locally, we’re able to offer more consistent performance, quicker support, and a better overall experience than large national providers
Fiber internet speeds range from 100 mbps to multi gig. Upload and download speeds are symmetrical. Symmetrical speeds mean yourupload speed is the same as your download speed. For example, 500 Mbps down and 500 Mbps up—ideal for video calls, cloud backups, gaming, and content creation.
Fiber is highly reliable and less affected by weather, electrical interference, or distance. It also experiences fewer outages compared to traditional copper networks.
Our fiber internet plans include unlimited data, so you don’t have to worry about data caps, overage charges, or throttling. You can stream, game, work, and connect multiple devices with confidence, knowing your internet usage is never limited.
Fiber internet is considered one of the most secure types of internet connections available. Unlike traditional copper lines, fiber-optic cables transmit data as light signals rather than electrical signals, making them extremely difficult to tap into without detection.
We are hard at work building out our fiber network in four phases. View our Phase Map or search your address to check availability!
Ignite Broadband will not offer Video/TV services, but we will be glad to help those who are ready to cut ties with your current cable TV providers to transition exclusively to streaming platforms and maximize your viewership value and experience.

Installation FAQs
A fiber drop installation is the process where our construction team installs a dedicated fiber-optic line from the main fiber network directly to your home or business. This includes placing the fiber either underground or aerially, securing it to the building, and splicing it at an exterior Network Interface Device (NID). This step prepares the location for service but does not activate internet—activation occurs later during the premise (inside) installation.
The fiber connects at the Network Interface Device (NID) on the building, where it transitions from the outdoor fiber line to the indoor connection.
The Network Interface Device (NID) is typically mounted on the outside of the building, usually near the power meter, in a secure and accessible location.
Fiber installation follows existing power infrastructure as much as possible to ensure a safe, efficient, and clean installation. This location also helps reduce the amount of drilling, wall penetrations, and interior wiring required, minimizing impact to the building while improving reliability and long-term serviceability.
In some cases, digging may be required to install the fiber drop. Before any digging begins, all underground utility lines are properly located to ensure safety by 811. Depending on the property and terrain, our crews may use trenching or boring methods when appropriate to minimize disruption. We take care to complete the installation as efficiently as possible while protecting your property.
*NOTE: Any privately installed utility lines that were added by the homeowner and not reported to 811 will not be located or marked prior to installation.
Our installation process is designed to limit impact, and any disturbed areas are restored as closely as possible once installation is complete. Final restoration timelines may vary due to weather or seasonal conditions.
Typically, you do not need to be home for the fiber drop installation since the work is done outside, as long as the installation area is accessible. Premise (inside) installation will still require someone at the location.
A premise installation is the inside portion of the setup, where equipment is installed inside your home or business and your fiber internet service is activated. This phase occurs during a scheduled time after the fiber drop is complete.
We will install a Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 router (depending on your selected package) that connects directly to the fiber service. If you choose to use your own router, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will be installed to connect to the fiber, and an Ethernet handoff will be provided for your router. Mesh extenders can also be added to our provided router to expand Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home for an additional fee.
For the best Wi-Fi performance, your router (RG/ONT) will be installed in acentral location near a standard power outlet. Central placement helps Wi-Fi signals reach all areas of your home or business more evenly, reducing dead spots and improving reliability. Installing the equipment in corners, basements, or utility rooms can weaken the signal. The equipment requires continuous power, so it must be placed near an existing outlet. Our goal is to set your service up for the best performance from day one.
Proper router placement ensures dependable service, allows easy access for maintenance, and supports optimal Wi-Fi and network performance.
Yes, a responsible adult over the age of 18 must be present for the premise installation to allow access to the home and approve equipment placement.
Standard installations include basic connectivity to get your internet service up and running. Additional services—such as Ethernet runs, whole-home Wi-Fi systems, extra access points, or business-grade network layouts—may be available upon request and may include additional charges. Our team can review available options during installation to help meet your connectivity needs.
Yes, fiber equipment such as the ONT and router require electricity to operate and must be connected to a power source.
During a power outage, your fiber internet service will be unavailable unless your equipment is connected to a battery backup or generator.
Most premise installations take between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the layout of the home and the equipment being installed.
All 3residential packages will include free installation with no contracts! As we build out our system, we will be following the path of our DES power plant, so if you currently have overhead power lines, our fiber lines will be aerial, and if you have underground lines, we will bury the lines to your home.
