Broadband FAQs

What is broadband?

Simply put, broadband is access to high-speed internet. Broadband can be delivered over multiple technologies, including fiber, cable, and fixed wireless. The official Federal Communications Commission (FCC) definition of broadband is a minimum of 25 Mbps (megabits per second) download and 3 Mbps upload. Ignite Broadband & Dickson Electric will deliver broadband via a fiber optic network for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services with symmetrical upload and download speeds of 500 Mbps, 1 Gig, and 2.5 Gigs.

What is fiber internet?

Fiber to the home (FTTH) is a high-speed internet connection that uses fiber-optic cables to deliver data directly to your home or business. It provides faster speeds and more reliable service compared to traditional copper-based connections.

How does fiber internet work?

Fiber internet works by sending data as pulses of light through thin strands of glass or plastic fiber optic cables. These cables transmit data at the speed of light, ensuring high-speed internet access.

What are the benefits of Ignite Broadband’s fiber internet?

Ignite Broadband’s fiber internet offers faster internet speeds, lower latency, and higher reliability compared to other internet technologies. It can support multiple devices and streaming services simultaneously without a drop in performance. Additionally, with symmetrical uploads and downloads and no data caps or throttling, Ignite Broadband’s fiber internet services will support your household’s device-packed life.

How much will it cost to install?

All 3 residential packages  will include free installation with no contracts! As we build out our system, we will be following the path of our DES power plant, so if you currently have overhead power lines, our fiber lines will be aerial, and if you have underground lines, we will bury the lines to your home.

Will DES and Ignite be offering phone and TV services?

Ignite & DES will offer internet and voice (phone) services. Video/TV services will not be offered, but we will be glad to help those who are ready to cut ties with your current cable TV providers to transition exclusively to streaming platforms and maximize your viewership value and experience.

Where are you currently working?

We have crews working all over our system right now hanging main line fiber, splicing, planning out our drops and installations, and building out our fiber network. Our Phase Map shows areas that are Under Construction. Our crews are hard at work bringing you the internet your family deserves.

Will broadband services be deployed to all DES customers?

Yes! Although the entire project scope and implementation will be a multi-year process, all DES electric customers will have access to our high-speed, reliable, affordable internet services once the deployment is complete and our fiber network has reached every home and business in our footprint.
